![]() In the event that any malware or other dangerous content appears, it remains in the Sandbox, keeping the rest of Windows safe. Simply put, the purpose of this is to allow you to run applications and check risky websites that you might not normally want to use in your regular Windows environment. ![]() This is accomplished using Microsoft’s hypervisor and hardware virtualization. If you have always been keen on trying and testing new software programs (including those with questionable sources), Windows Sandbox is something you should know about.Ī Sandbox is a virtual machine that runs a separate kernel to isolate Windows Sandbox sessions from the host. And I still can’t boot with that BIOS setting enabled.Wondering how to enable or disable Windows sandbox in Windows 11? The only thing unusual about my setup is that I had to disable VT-d to boot into Windows 10 build 1803. I thought about why my computer might not allow Player and Sandbox to work together. The comments in that thread show others could not get Player and Hyper-V to work. I found a thread from VMware saying Hyper-V (Sandbox) and VMware Player should work together. But it is much easier to use VirtualBox or VMware Player. You are still able to create virtual machines with Hyper-V. ![]() Disable Hyper-V to run virtualization software – Windows Client | Microsoft Docs The hardware cannot be shared between virtualization applications. Only one software component can use this hardware at a time. Many virtualization applications depend on hardware virtualization extensions that are available on most modern processors. And Hyper-V and (Oracle VirtualBox or VMware Player) are incompatible. The issue seems to be that Sandbox runs on top of Hyper-V. Keep in mind you have to reboot to add or remove Sandbox. This also means you have to choose one virtual machine app or repeatedly install and uninstall Sandbox. To uninstall, you need to go back to Windows Features and uncheck Windows Sandbox. ![]() These other virtual machine applications will only run while Sandbox (and Hyper-V) are uninstalled. ![]() I bumped into the issue where you cannot run Oracle VirtualBox or VMware Player while Sandbox is installed. ![]()
